Procedures concerning changes to a domain
It is important that if something changes in connection with a domain (e.g., some data of the registrant, the registrant themself, or the registrar), the data in the register should be modified accordingly, as soon as possible.
There are two types of domain registration:
- document-based and
- confirmation procedure-based.
In both cases, the registrant communicates with the Registry through the registrar.
In the case of document-based domain registration, modifications often require different documents, while in the confirmation procedure-based registration, in most cases the changes are confirmed by registrant using their email address (and possibly telephone number), no documents are required.
The procedures are described here:
Transfer of delegation, changes in registrant's name
Here we highlight one of the most important changes related to the domain name, when the name or person of registrant changes. This may be due to a transfer, name change, succession or other reasons. In such a case, it is important that the change to be recorded in the register as soon as possible, as the legal domain user is the one listed here.
The Domain Registration Policy gives applicants plenty of choice for names, but there are some restrictions. For information on special names, see the summary below.
Second level public subdomains
These are names that are already registered, but you can request a domain registration under them. E.g., co.hu, info.hu
Protected names
There are two types of protected names:
- Protected names under all public domains
These names cannot be registered under any public domain, so neither directly under .hu nor under the second level public subdomains (e.g., co.hu, info.hu, etc.).
- Names protected under .hu only
These names cannot be registered as .hu domains, but they can be registered under any of the second level public subdomains.
Hungarian settlement names
Only the local government is entitled to register a domain name identical to the name of a Hungarian settlement.
If a municipality has an official name in the language of a minority, only the local government is entitled to register the corresponding domain name.
Country names
Only the official representation of a country is entitled to register a domain name that is the same as the name of the country in Hungarian and English.
gov.hu
The gov.hu domain is reserved for the public sector.
Neither the registrars nor the Registry have a role in the domain registrations under gov.hu, NISz Zrt. is the entitled organisation in this respect.
The Registry publishes two types of domain listst:
1. Announcement of new domain applications
After the granting the right of use conditionally of a domain, the Registry will publish it on the list of new domain applications.
If no complaint is received within 8 days, the domain will be delegated to the applicant.
2. The parking list of domains waiting for deletion
On this list domains wait 60 days before deletion. During this time, if the domain user re-registers the domain at one of the registrars, the right of use will be again granted to the user.
